Back Home: The Panagyurishte Treasure and 150 Years of the April Uprising

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising, the original Panagyurishte Treasure returns home once again… to Panagyurishte. From April 1 to May 17, the nine golden vessels will be exhibited at the History Museum – Panagyurishte, in the special “Treasury” hall.

150 Years of the April Uprising and the Panagyurishte Treasure

The return of the Panagyurishte Treasure coincides with the celebration of 150 years since the April Uprising — one of the most important events in Bulgarian history. On this occasion, the town of Panagyurishte is hosting a rich cultural program, including commemorative ceremonies, exhibitions and various events.

What is the Panagyurishte Treasure

Discovered in 1949, the Panagyurishte Treasure consists of nine exquisite golden vessels with a total weight of over 6 kilograms. Among them are rhytons, an amphora and a phiale.

The treasure is one of the most significant discoveries of Thracian culture, revealing scenes from the life of the ancient Thracians, their beliefs and rituals. Today, the Panagyurishte Treasure is a symbol of Bulgaria’s cultural heritage and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Be one of them too!
